FAQ

who are you?

i’m webMaster rudolf dienstag. look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.

what are user experiences?

a new type of web series i’m developing with a focus on interactivity. my ux site will be overhauled soon but you can read more about it here.

what is your art process?

somewhat like this:

  • sketch (usually analog)
  • render line art in clip studio paint
  • base color flats shadows highlights
  • color line art on clip mask
  • add textures and color correction filters

you can see some of my tools here.

how do i build a website?

you can build a very basic website with some simple html/css. nero’s quick ‘n’ dirty guide to making a website is the best place to start and my home page’s two-column design was inspired by sadgrl’s layout builder.

to take it further, consider using a static site generator like astro javascript or 11ty. both have a learning curve but astro especially is incredible at managing content heavy sites like mine. coding in public has a full astro blog tutorial on youtube.

i’ve put together some additional resources and free code here.

This is my obnoxious food question, Darby and Mallory are at a boba shop, what are they ordering??

darby would definitely go for full sugar strawberry milk tea with boba. mallory would get regular tea with boba (maybe 25% sugar?) but move to different flavors of milk tea to convince her to try something new. (she drinks all of hers and then drinks the rest of his…)

she definitely takes a pinterest-type picture of their hands holding the cups too. boba date!!! (also pictured is matching friendship bracelets.)

Hi, same person from the last Werewolf AU ask, I LOVE little red riding hood iconography, and any fairytale iconography involving wolves, and the moment I read about this AU I was 1000% excited for it.

i’m happy to hear that! it’s a very interesting and flexible trope, and there are a lot of fun and unhinged ways to approach it.

i’m going to post some old little red art just for you! i hope you enjoy it.

hi the error message Darby on your site (specifically I’m talking about the “how did you get here! get out!” error message) is very cute. just thought you should know

THANK YOU… i thought it was really cute it’s actually from an unfinished comic where mallory catches darby having sex with her best friend (my friend’s oc emmy)… he sits them down at the table for a “talk” and darby is just crying her eyes out and apologizing profusely LMFAO

i hope there are no broken links but i’ll comb through it in a bit don’t ever get too cocky

Hi, love your art :D. In what kind of format is Domestication going to be told from? Is it going to be throught comics or interactive illustrations in your website? Do you have any concept art of it by any chance? Sorry if this is too much, I just have Darby brainrot …

i plan to present domestication as a web series/“user experience” hosted on my site. it will function like a webtoon but there will be animations and interactive elements, and my hope is to draw it at print size—god forbid anyone actually print it but i’d like that to be a possibility—and build it to be responsive and navigable by screen readers.

i think i have some doodles floating around somewhere but i’ll have to take a look. between irl and my website i haven’t had much time to sit down and actually put a lot of this to paper but as usual most of the work has been under the hood so far. incidentally i posted something close to Some Of It but i’ll put together a page of concept art when the time comes. :)

and no, it’s not too much at all i promise! feel free to ask any questions you’d like! i have darbitis and it’s terminal. i think about her every second of every day. she is my baby and i look forward to telling her story (and also drawing freaky shit whenever i have flare ups)

What program do you use? Do you sketch traditionally and then you scan it? Love your art btw :)

thank you for your kind words most of my art starts as traditional sketches that i edit in clip studio paint at which point i just render them out into line work and add colors.

i should post some side-by-side comparisons of my concept sketches and finished pieces at some point. i have dysgraphia so without pen stabilization i have to work really fast and loose, and i think that captures a really good energy but i worry it gets lost in the rendering. i hope you are still able to feel them
